Microsoft released MS Office 2007 Service Pack 2, where in addition to the usual updates and bug fixes some users may be surprised to see support for the open document format ODF (Open Document Format) with extensions .odt ( text) .ods (table) and .odp (presentation).

For those who don’t know, ODF is an open standard and the ISO standardized format for office documents (ISO / IEC 26300) and is default format used in OpenOffice.org, IBM Lotus Symphony, KOffice, Google Docs, and many others. Open Community can benefit from this, because now the documents can be opened with any kind of Office software chosen for work. Now we can see a clear competition, the new Office software either from Microsoft, OpenOffice or others will be chosen by innovations and user improvements and not as previous – closed format compatibility.
