Surely you have noticed that in your folders often appears a file named thumbs.db. Predefined behavior of many folders in Windows is to show thumbnails of picture file. Especially files where you save your digital or mobile phone camera photography’s. Thumbs.db file appears mostly in those folders. That file is used as a cache so when you open folder containing photos thumbnails appear faster.

You can erase that file easily but it will be recreated the next time you open the same folder. The file alone doesn't use much free space, but if you have extremely high number of those files on a disc, turning that file off will save you some free space. There is one more reason why you will want to turn it off. If you want to use some folder setting (for example Details view) on all folder in Windows, it will not be possible because a folder containing thumbs.db file will stay in thumbnails view. To turn off thumbnails cache open Windows Explorer and from drop down menu Tools -> Options and after that Tab View where you musty mark „Do not cache thumbnails“ and press OK.
