Windows 7 XP Mode without hardware virtualization

Microsoft announced that XP mode on Windows 7 can be used without hardware virtualization with a new system update. This update will work only on Windows 7 Enterprise, Professional and Ultimate.

Until now, XP Mode on Windows 7 was enabled only on a newer processors with hardware virtualization support - enabled in the BIOS. The users with older processors without hardware virtualization until now, cannot use XP mode benefits even if they have enough fast processor to handle that virtualization. Realizing that, Microsoft decides to remove these hardware requirements with system updates for both 32 and 64 bit Windows.
