How to update and upgrade packages on Ubuntu

This post is short, easy and useful step-tutorial for beginners of how to set Ubuntu to update and upgrade packages from internet:

  1. Go to the System > Administration menu and click on Software Sources.
  2. Select the Ubuntu Software tab and enable the main, universe, restricted, and multiverse repositories.
  3. Optionally find the most responsive server, choose Other... from the Download from drop-down menu, then click Select Best Server. Once the best server has been selected, click Choose Server.
  4. Update and upgrade packages from the server:
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get upgrade
