Microsoft has released five different versions of Windows 7 which will be available when new operating system will start distribution in the second half of this or early next year.

Here is the list of official Windows versions:

  • Windows 7 Starter
  • Windows 7 Home Basic (for "weak" market)
  • Windows 7 Home Premium
  • Windows 7 Professional
  • Windows 7 Enterprise and Windows 7 Ultimate
Microsoft said that the "emphasis" will put on the version of Home Premium and Professional, but as they said: "higher version will have all the capabilities of those below it".

Starter version has the possibility of simultaneous launching only three applications, the possibility of inclusion in the Home Groups, enhanced taskbar and JumpList.

Home Basic has the possibility of simultaneous launch of an unlimited number of applications, live thumbnail preview, Mobility Center and advanced wireless networking.

Home Premium: first that supports Aero Glass and advanced navigation, support for various media formats, support for multitouch, and advanced handwriting recognition.

Professional - all features like previous - plus additional networking options, encrypting data and Location Aware Printing.

Enterprise and Ultimate: BitLocker to external and internal drives, DirectAccess VPN instead of a BranchCache and AppLocker.

Are you kidding me a version of windows 7 will only allow three apps to run at the same time i can see this pissing people off and giving it a bad rep like what happened to vista.

I believe that Microsoft has finally found an effective and highly efficient way of enslaving humanity, with their current and mind you, very minor re-make of windows Vista.
I wonder why they called it windows 7, when in reality it should be "Vista Enslavement".

Thank you for sharing this horrible peace of information, as it is rather disturbing.
