Intel starts shipping processor Atom N280 to their OEM partners. The N280 is upgrade to popular N270, the heart of almost every notebook on the market. Atom N280 has bigger clock speed of 1.66 GHz (N270 has 1.60GHz) and faster 667 MHz FSB over the original 533MHz. The biggest news is new chipset GN40, that will be proper support of new Atom processor and also competition for announced nVidia ION platform.

GN40 can decode HD videos up to 720p, but is still lack in graphics performance compared to nVidia chipset. First new Atom delivery was to Asus, and the new processor will come in new Eee PC models, while most older models will keep the N270.
