SoundConverter is utility that comes with the default installation of Ubuntu. Sound converter can convert between various audio formats like Ogg/Vorbis, MP3, FLAC, and WAV.

To install SoundConverter along with GStreamer codec you need to execute following command in terminal mode:

sudo apt-get install soundconverter gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad
Now you can run SoundConverter from the Applications > Sound & Video menu.

I liked this post in that it is very concise. The topic would be exciting for someone looking to convert audio files, but that's about it.
