There is plenty of time for first beta release of Windows 7, but ZDNet team already tested Windows 7 build 6956, and they have result of performance time on same hardware – Windows 7 is faster than Vista SP1.

We must say that, this is early and under heavy development Windows 7 version and it's already faster in three of four ZDNet tests, so we expect the final version to be more faster than version in development. In this case, there are only 32 bit Windows 7 vs 32 bit Vista tested.
This is already announced by Microsoft, so they say that Windows 7 will be faster and it will use less hardware resources than Vista.
